DRC preparing to launch calls for tenders for the construction of its national data center

The Ministry of Digital will soon launch calls for tenders for the construction of the national data center. It was Minister Désiré-Cashimir Eberande Kolongele who announced it. According to him, the feasibility studies have been finalized.
It is a secure building (or part of a building) housing various electronic equipment, computers, storage systems, servers and telecommunications equipment. The main purpose of a data center is to run applications that process data essential to the operation of a company.
“In the meantime, after auditing the existing system, we found that there was a data center lying around at the so-called intelligent ministry. The Ministry of Digital has made a request to the government to authorize this tool to undergo an upgrade. It will be used in the meantime,” explained the minister on the occasion of year 1 of the government.
Currently, at the institutional level, the SCPT has three data centers which are directly connected to the national fiber optic backbone in Moanda, Kinshasa and Lubumbashi. Private operators also have data centers in Kinshasa mainly dedicated to their internal use for the management of their infrastructures and services.
To do this, it will be necessary to settle a certain number of prerequisites such as. Knowing that an average data center consumes 100 times more electricity than a large commercial building.
