ANPG, Totalenergies, and Sonangol sign Kwanza basin exploration agreement

Angola’s National Agency of Petroleum (ANPG, Gas and Biofuels), TotalEnergies EP Angola and Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção SA, signed this Tuesday 2nd May an agreement of principles that allows the first development and exploration project in the Kwanza Basin to become viable.
The development project for Blocks 20 and 21, located around 150 kilometers southwest of Luanda, will comprise a floating platform of the FPSO type, TotalEnergies’ seventh in Angola, anchored at 1,700 meters deep and connected to an underwater production network.
For the General Manager of TotalEnergies, Martin Deffontaines, this project will represent a new technological commitment in the field of energy efficiency and energy decarbonization, not least because it will include, from its conception, electricity generation from a combined cycle turbine and zero burning of gas, which will allow you to lower the intensity of carbon emissions”.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ANPG, Paulino Jerónimo, considers that “this agreement will allow the first production in the maritime zone of Kwanza and could contribute decisively to the consummation of the objectives of national production”.
